Using Our Feed

What are Feeds?

Newspaper feed iconA feed allows you to be advised when a website has added new content. By subscribing to the Synergy Metals feed service, you can be automatically notified of our latest ASX announcements on the day they are published on our website without having to look for updates.

Feeds are also known as RSS which stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. In essence, the feed is a web page which is sent to your computer. The page contains brief information about our latest ASX announcement and also allows you easily to download the full announcement from our site.

How do I start using your feed?

You will need a news reader. Some of the newer email programs already incorporate readers and are easy to access by using your regular internet browser.

You will see this icon in the address bar, or in one of the toolbars of most web browsers when you are looking at the pages on our site. (If you are using an Apple Safari browser you will see the letters ‘RSS’ in white on a blue background). Clicking on the icon will bring up our feed.

Or you can install a discrete downloadable application. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are different types of readers: some are accessed using a browser, and others are discrete downloadable applications. Here is a sample of some readers:

Can’t I Just Use My Email Programme?

Yes you can, if it supports RSS. The more up to date ones generally do. Depending on the way you like to organise things, this is often the neatest way to do it.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 / Apple Mail 3

If you have the latest version of Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) you can simply add our RSS feed so you will receive email-like notifications of our new ASX announcements. You can use Apple Mail too if you have a Mac running Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard) or better. Other modern email clients tend to be able to handle RSS too.

Our feed is at http://feeds.feedburner.com/smlfeed/ and you can find out more information on how to add it to your copy of Microsoft Outlook 2007 here and to Apple Mail 3 here and a video tip here.

Subscribe to Our Email Service

If you have an older email client (programme) that doesn’t handle RSS, you can still receive our email updates. Simply add your email address to the box in the “Subscribe to Our ASX Notices” section in the right hand column and submit it. Our email notification service is run by Feedburner and uses the RSS feed to email you at the address you provide. You will receive only one email a day when more than one ASX notice is published but it will give details of all the notices.

You may unsubscribe from this service using a link at the foot of each email or message.

How Soon After You Post a New ASX Notice on the Website Will I Be Notified?

It takes about 30 minutes for the feed to update. Once it has, the detail will be available to you directly within the software that you chose to receive your feed, like News Readers, Outlook 2007 and Apple Mail 3. Our email service sends out notifications between 5pm and 7pm Melbourne time (GMT+10) in line with the ASX closing time of 4pm.
